Summary:
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a recent languages graduate to gain experience of school life working in our outstanding languages department. King Alfred is a forward thinking, progressive and innovative School and any successful candidate would share these attributes.
We are seeking to appoint a French and Spanish Graduate Assistant. The role will include taking 1:1 conversation classes with A Level students of Spanish and French during term time; speaking lessons are 25 minutes long. It is envisaged that the lessons would take place across 2/3 days, and that other opportunities to participate in wider school life would be available. For example, King Alfred takes lots of trips, including to France and Spain, and we run many co-curricular activities, so for the right candidate, this could be a rounded experience of life in a school, suitable for someone considering a career in teaching in due course.

Reports to: Head of Modern Foreign Languages
Responsibilities:

Duties will include:

• helping devise material for conversation classes
• working with individuals or small groups as specified by the relevant language teacher
• assisting class teachers in preparing A Level students for their oral examinations
• participating in the co-curricular life of the department, and potentially beyond

Person Specification:

In order to fill this role effectively, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and experiences:

• Fluency in both French and Spanish to A Level standard.
• The successful candidate should have energy and enthusiasm, an affinity for young people and broad cultural awareness. A familiarity with the requirements of the AQA A Level assessment criteria would be an advantage, but is not essential. They will be passionate about languages and be able to inspire and motivate our pupils.

We are seeking to enhance the diversity of our staff and student body and would therefore particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in our school community, especially those from the global majority.

Closing date for applications: midnight on Tuesday 30th June 2026
