Holme Court School is seeking a dedicated, skilled and compassionate SEND Teacher / Specialist SpLD Teacher to join our specialist team. This is an exciting opportunity for either a qualified teacher or an experienced specialist practitioner with a passion for supporting young people with additional learning needs to play a central role in delivering high-quality teaching, targeted interventions and personalised learning within our nurturing school community.
Holme Court is a small, warm and inclusive setting for pupils aged 7–16 with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, SLCN, SEMH, ASC, ASD and ADHD. We pride ourselves on our personalised curriculum, specialist teaching and strong relationships, ensuring every child is understood, respected and supported to achieve their full potential.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable professional with a strong understanding of neurodiverse learners, including experience supporting pupils with dyslexia and literacy-based learning difficulties, and a passion for creating engaging, accessible and meaningful learning experiences.
We are looking for candidates who can:
• Under the direction of the Head, carry out the professional duties of a school teacher or specialist practitioner in line with current school policies.

• Provide a high-quality education service for our students in accordance with school policies, procedures and standards.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals to promote positive outcomes for pupils.
As a SEND Teacher / Specialist SpLD Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering personalised teaching and learning programmes tailored to individual student needs. This may include teaching a broad curriculum, leading specialist literacy and learning interventions, supporting the development of life skills including self-help, communication and self-regulation, and providing cover teaching when required. All work will be adapted and personalised in accordance with students' EHCPs and individual learning profiles.
We are looking to appoint candidates who can demonstrate the following:
• An understanding of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (SpLD), including dyscalculia and dyspraxia, alongside a willingness to learn about Autism and other SEND needs, and consistently apply this understanding to teaching and learning.
• Experience of teaching or supporting pupils with dyslexia, ASC and a range of associated learning, communication and emotional needs within either a mainstream or specialist setting.
• A commitment to using dyslexia-friendly, multi-sensory and evidence-informed approaches to support engagement, literacy development and academic progress.
• Experience of delivering specialist literacy interventions and targeted support for pupils with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties.
• Confidence working with individual pupils, small intervention groups and whole classes as required.
• The ability to use specialist assessment information to identify barriers to learning and implement effective support strategies.
• Flexibility to provide classroom teaching and cover for staff absence where required.
• To hold a nationally recognised qualification in understanding/supporting learners with ASC and SEMH and/or be willing to undertake additional training and qualifications in SEND, including specific learning difficulties where appropriate.
• To plan, deliver and teach individual students or small groups in accordance with their EHCPs, adapting teaching and learning to meet a range of SEND needs, including dyslexia and literacy-based difficulties.
• To plan, adapt and personalise a multi-sensory curriculum that supports pupils with dyslexia and other neurodiverse learning profiles, enabling them to access learning successfully.
• To monitor, record and report on student progress, using assessment information to identify gaps, celebrate strengths and inform targeted interventions.
• To support the development of literacy, communication, confidence and independent learning skills across the curriculum.
• To contribute to and help implement developments that relate to the School Development Plan and the continued enhancement of SEND and dyslexia-friendly practice.
• To promote, in line with school policies, the physical, educational, social and moral development of all students.
• To contribute to the development and implementation of an environment and programme of learning that removes barriers, builds self-esteem and enables every student to make sustained and appropriate progress.
• To work collaboratively with families, therapists and colleagues to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to meeting students' individual needs.
Qualifications and Experience
A minimum Level 5 specialist qualification in Dyslexia or Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) is essential. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential. Applications are welcomed from both qualified teachers and experienced specialist practitioners who have a strong track record of supporting learners with dyslexia and other SEND needs.
The successful candidate will be confident leading individual and small-group interventions and, where appropriate, teaching whole classes to support wider school provision, including providing cover during periods of staff absence.
