Camp Lifeguard – Summer Role
Location: Sunninghill Prep School, South Court, South Walks Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1EB
Hours: Zero hours contract, up to 40 hours per week available when supporting the main camp
Pay: £15.00 per hour
Start Date: July 2026
About the Role
Sunninghill Prep School is seeking an enthusiastic and safety focused Camp Lifeguard to support our busy summer day camps. Working within a vibrant holiday camp environment, you will supervise swimming sessions, maintain a safe and welcoming pool area, and contribute to the smooth running of camp activities. Additional hours within the main camp may be available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise swimming sessions, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all campers
• Follow the school’s Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plan at all times
• Set up, check and pack away pool equipment as required
• Carry out routine inspections of the pool area to maintain safety standards (where qualified)
• Maintain high levels of cleanliness in and around the pool environment
• Administer first aid or perform rescues when required
• Uphold all safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection expectations
• Support wider camp operations when not on pool duty
Key Criteria:
• Essential Qualifications & Training
• NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification)
• Minimum Level 2 Safeguarding (training can be provided)
• Paediatric First Aid (training may be provided for suitable candidates)
Desirable:
• Childcare related qualification
• Experience working with children in an educational or activity camp setting
• Ability to deliver engaging activities to children
• Understanding of safeguarding issues and current guidance from regulatory bodies such as Ofsted
