Cook (General)

Hours of Work: 30 – 40 hours per week between 8.30am – 4.30pm (some flexibility is required)
Contract term: Permanent – Full time / 52 weeks
Start date: 20th April 2026

St Francis School is seeking a dedicated and reliable cook to join our friendly catering team, supporting the preparation and delivery of high quality meals for our pupils and staff.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and ensuring fridges and stores are well stocked.
Prepare and cook lunches, including support with the salad bar, cold pudding trolley, cheeseboard, and Care Club refreshments.
Serve lunch across two sittings and clean down tables, benches, and service areas.
Carry out daily cleaning tasks, including hot trolleys, salad bar equipment, and general kitchen duties.
Prepare cakes, biscuits, and speciality bakes for match teas, school events, and allergen specific needs.
Support weekly match teas and occasional after school Music/Drama events.
Maintain high standards of food hygiene, allergen awareness, and HACCP documentation.
Assist with menu costing, stock control, date checking, and waste management.
Undertake deep cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall during holiday periods, including washing up.
Carry out forward preparation for the next day and work flexibly as part of the Catering Team, including attending relevant training.

We are looking for a Chef who has the following qualifications & experiences:

A minimum of NVQ 2 in catering or nationally recognised qualification.
High standards of professional practice, honesty and integrity.
A commitment to working with children.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work at speed under pressure.
Previous relevant experience.
Flexibility and reliability
A commitment to ongoing professional development
A hard worker with high levels of energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the school and Catering Team.
Previous experience in Social Catering (desirable)
