Job Description

Grounds Technician
Part time, 8 hours per week
To start – ASAP

We are currently seeking an able and enthusiastic Grounds Technician to join and work within our grounds team at Shebbear College. The role would suit someone with grounds experience.

Shebbear College is a small independent day and boarding school of around 300 pupils, for boys and girls aged from 2 – 18. Set in 85-acres of countryside between Dartmoor and Exmoor, it is an idyllic location in which to work. Class sizes are smaller than average throughout the school and we pride ourselves on knowing every pupil as an individual, recognising their potential and helping them to achieve their best, whatever that may be. This is what makes us special and stands us apart from other schools.

The Grounds Technician will work under the Area Maintenance and Grounds Manager to ensure that the upkeep of the school grounds, sports pitches, and facilities are kept to a high standard. This will include grounds maintenance work and working across the school sites in the area.

A flexible approach to the hours of work is required. You will need to work such hours as are necessary to satisfactorily carry out their duties as agreed with the Area Maintenance and Grounds Manager. This will include working in school holidays.

The main duties will be:
• Turf maintenance, including mowing, fertilisation, irrigation, pest control and line marking.
• Setting up of Sports Pitches.
• Delivering comprehensive agronomic programs to optimize turf health and performance.
• Arboriculture work.
• Maintaining all machinery relating to groundskeeping.
• Carry out ground’s maintenance, such as fencing and general maintenance.
• To establish effective working relationships and set a good example through your personal presentation and personal and professional conduct.
• To ensure that our grounds are clean, tidy and safe at all times.

A full job description is available on request.

We would like to hear from you if you feel you have the skill and attributes for this varied and exciting role.

You will be involved and supported by the Inspired Learning Group of schools and Nurseries.

BENEFITS OF SERVICE
• Working in a small friendly school in a stunning rural location
• A competitive salary will be dependent on qualifications, skills and experience
• Longer holidays than the maintained sector
• Free lunch and refreshments during term-time
• Health & Wellbeing Centre on site during term time
• Free use of the college facilities such as gymnasium
