Position: Kitchen Assistant
Contract type: Full Time - 51 Weeks
Hours of Work: 25 hours per week
Salary - £14 per hour
Contract term: Permanent
Located in the centre of Canary Wharf with an outstanding outlook to the hustle and bustle is Wood Wharf Kindergarten. We are looking to recruit a Kitchen Assistant who shares our passion and excitement for excellence in childcare. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to be instrumental in the provision of care for children in our state of the art nursery.
Wood Wharf Kindergarten provides outstanding childcare for children aged 3 months to 4 years. We have a vision to provide inquiry based learning and language development throughout the early years curriculum.
We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant who is able to support the chef in planning and preparing whilst continuing to provide an excellent provision at Wood Wharf Kindergarten. You will engage with and inspire a passion for health, nutritious and exciting food.
As our Kitchen assistant you will undertake the task of supporting our chef in producing a high-quality service during nursery operational time and at hospitality events. Ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic. Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately. Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients. Washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and cooking foodstuffs and helping to prepare foods if required.
We are looking for a kitchen Assistant who has the following qualifications & experiences:
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation.
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Service; Intermediate Food Hygiene
• The ability to estimate food consumption for purchasing
• Receive & examines foodstuffs and supplies to make sure quality and quantity meet established standards specifications
• Select and develops recipes based on type of food to be prepared and applying personal knowledge experience in food preparation
• Following all guidelines for food hygiene and health and safety
• Certificate of completion of any training program in cooking, or vocational school
• Holds an intermediate food hygiene certificate
We are looking for someone who has;
• Cooking experience within any food establishment
• Good understanding of commercial catering operation
• A good understanding of food hygiene and HACCP
• Enthusiasm, vision, drive, adaptability, and resilience
• High personal standards, self-motivated and proactive
• Suitability to work with children
• Flexible and maintain a sound sense of humour
• Commitment to continued personal and professional development
