Westbury House Preparatory School and Nursery
Position: Kitchen Assistant
Contract type: Full Time - 52 Weeks
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week
Contract term: Permanent

We are currently looking to appoint a Kitchen Assistant to join their catering team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for food to join our team.

Westbury House Preparatory School and Nursery has a strong family atmosphere and prepares pupils exceptionally well for schools of their choice at age 11+. The site is a small, friendly preparatory school which also includes a thriving nursery that educates boys and girls aged 2 years to 11 years old. It together holds places for up to 104 children. Westbury House Preparatory School and Nursery has a unique and charming atmosphere, seldom found in schools today. The well-equipped playground provides ample space for outdoor learning and play.

As our Kitchen assistant you will undertake the task of supporting our Cook and supervising the preparation of meals. You will also perform domestic duties which ensure the safe production of food relevant to current food and health safety legislation. You will also assist the cook with serving where required and cover for the chef to cook for the nursery children during the school holidays.

We are looking for a kitchen Assistant who has the following qualifications & experiences:
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation.
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Service; Intermediate Food Hygiene
• The ability to estimate food consumption for purchasing
• Receive & examines foodstuffs and supplies to make sure quality and quantity meet established standards specifications
• Select and develops recipes based on type of food to be prepared and applying personal knowledge experience in food preparation
• Following all guidelines for food hygiene and health and safety
• Certificate of completion of any training program in cooking, or vocational school
• Holds an intermediate food hygiene certificate

We are looking for someone who has;
• Cooking experience within any food establishment
• Good understanding of commercial catering operation
• A good understanding of food hygiene and HACCP
• Enthusiasm, vision, drive, adaptability, and resilience
• High personal standards, self-motivated and proactive
• Suitability to work with children
• Flexible and maintain a sound sense of humour
• Commitment to continued personal and professional development
